The New Q4 on Broadway Gets Saucy

It's a big day for the Q4 restaurant group.

Today they officially transfer their Q4 restaurant on Kitsilano's West 4th Avenue to an expanded location at 2563 West Broadway. (The former home of Chef Daniel Boulud's DB Bistro Moderne.)

No doubt West 4th neighbourhood patrons will be happy to hear that the original location will remain as a company property, after it is renovated to fit a more casual, family-friendly concept. The full restaurant complex however, will now be headquartered on Broadway, along with a cocktail lounge, 24-seat private dining room and catering kitchen. Yet even in the spanking new digs, co-owner Patrick Corsi will still need to reassure longtime Q4 fans that their favourite dishes will still be on the menu.

In fact, he'll be doing even better than that. One of the advantages of branching into catering is the fact that Q4 will now maintain a dedicated catering kitchen. This means that they can pre-make, freeze and package their trademark recipes and make them available for sale to customers who love them, but prefer to eat at home.

A whole line of Q4 products are in the works, but to begin, there will be a frozen mushroom ravioli dish, plus two sauces: a classic pomodoro (tomato) sauce, and Antonio Corsi (Patrick's Dad)'s own recipe for Bolognese.

You'll be able to purchase these at all Q4 restaurants, or look for them in such Vancouver retail shops as Whole Foods or the Lazy Gourmet.

No doubt the Corsi family's own cookbook "Mangia with Quattro" (Whitecap, 2011), will be sold alongside for inspiration.
