Bella Gelateria Comes to Yaletown
Good news for gelato fans, and for fans of Bella Gelateria in particular. The best gelato shop in Vancouver (and arguably the world) is expanding operations with a first satellite outlet planned for Yaletown.
Bella Gelateria owner James Coleridge, who has been taking his time browsing for a suitable location, finally found it on Marinaside Crescent. In three months he takes over the lease of the space now occupied by Bojangles Cafe (next door to Province Marinaside restaurant, and just around the corner from the Urban Fare grocery).
Mmm, imagine it ... a gelato café with 40 alfresco seats located directly on the waterfront stroll with its views of False Creek and the marina. What could be more perfect for summer? And with the luxury of a more spacious floor plan, Coleridge won’t be restricted to serving his award-winning gelato alone. Authentic Neapolitan-style pizza will be on the menu, as well as the line of Italian pastries he is in the process of developing. Coffee will be provided by the Vancouver-based Milano Coffee company.
Right now the big decision for Coleridge and his Rome-born designer is whether to renovate the current space to accommodate 60 interior seats and two long service counters, or to gut the place entirely and start from scratch. We shall see. The only bad news is that neither option can be accomplished by Summer 2013. The expected opening is November 2013, or later - hopefully at least, in time for a cup of Christmas Italian nougat gelato while the Carol Ships sail by.
