12 New Food Trucks Announced for Vancouver
Scroll down for the link to the Google Map and the locations of Vancouver's new food trucks. We will fill in any information missing from the lists as it becomes available.
This morning, Mayor Gregor Robertson revealed to an excited bloggerati, which applicants had successfully run City Hall's gauntlet and snagged the 12 available food cart permits for 2012. All of the winners had been selected by a jury committee dutifully concerned with public health, as well as other religious issues such as degrees of "local-ness" and care for sustainability. Hopefully, deliciousness, uniqueness and adequate levels of the elusive fun factor counted in the decision making as well. At any rate, the majority of the winners appear to be focused on some international version of the lunchtime sandwich.
At least four of the applicants already have a vehicle operating on Vancouver streets. While first time truck operators ranged between the advanced organized (marketing in place, trucks ready to roll) and those for whom a basic twitter account appeared to be still on the check list.
All of the new trucks will be located within the downtown Vancouver core. However food lovers in other commercial neighbourhoods, such as Kitsilano or Strathcona, should not lose hope. According to today's announcement, an additional 30 positions will be added to this new group within the next two years. That's 30 more chances to nail down Vancouver's answer to the Kogi BBQ success story.
