Mickey D's Goes Upscale on Robson
It's been such a long time since we last crossed the threshold of a McDonald's outlet that when we made an impromptu fly pass today of the new McCafe on Robson, we had to ask "and is this new?" about nearly everything on the overhead menu board .... much to the amusement of the giggling cashiers.
Apparently many things ARE special to the new location, including table service, 24/7 operating hours, artsy chandeliers, self-serve cappuccino machines and free wifi. (See a few more features in the photos below.)
There's definitely been an effort made here to upgrade the McDonald's brand, and while not exactly making a pole vault leap to white tablecloth finesse, the new digs and the food (especially with the new selection of baked goods) does appear to be chasing the Tim Horton's style of Canadian-eh casual dining.
This is the second full size McCafe for Vancouver and it stands equally poised at the corner of Robson and Hamilton to welcome both BC Place sports grunts as well as the bespeckled eggheads who haunt the Central Public Library. We'll see who wins the faceoff to occupy the outdoor patio.
Bargain alert: next week they will be celebrating their grand opening with a variety of 1/2 price specials. TBA.
