Cache Bistro and Lounge Opens in Yaletown

(Reprinted directly from the press release.)

Caché Bistro & Lounge is pleased to announce their grand opening on April 26, 2012.  This Yaletown location is unique to the city as it redefines classic French delights with a creative Asian twist.

Chef/Owner Alex Mok is excited to serve a wide selection of original dishes that melds traditional French bistro-fare with a contemporary approach to seasonal ingredients.  As the restaurant’s name suggests, Caché is aspired to be Yaletown’s hidden gem for casual French cuisine, serving this hip and urban neighborhood with one of a kind dishes that bring dining experiences to a fresh, new level.

The restaurant is a continuation from Alex’s success with his previous private dining venture - the “Underground Supper Club”.  He explains, “diners at the Underground Supper Club often have a sophisticated taste palate and high expectations for every visit.  They look for dishes that cannot be found elsewhere and inspires me to be experimental with French dishes that defines my culinary passion.” Alongside with brother Chef Jason Mok, wife Zoë and her front of the house team, and long time friend Kinson Lai’s business acumen, Alex looks forward to greet adventurous diners who are eager to try something new, or others who simply want to indulge in the comfort of classics.

Caché’s signature dishes include Black Tea Smoked Duck Breast Salad with Arugula, Lemon Vinaigrette, Onion Jam, White Wine Soaked Raisins, and Candied Walnut. The traditional Chinese Zhangcha tea infusion method is used to prepare this dish, so the delicate fragrance of black tea is preserved inside the tender duck breast slices.

Another menu highlight is the Foie Gras Creme Bruleé.  This creative version combines foie gras’ rich flavors and the creamy texture of egg custard all inside an egg shell and topped with Flying Fish Caviar.  It is served with a Friseé Salad and White Truffle Vinaigrette that adds a light but flavorful spin to this delightful appetizer, which has often been described as “love at first bite”.

“Our goal is to invite diners and food enthusiasts from all around town, to sample Alex’s unique approach to contemporary French cuisine, with a selection of imported and locally brewed craft beer, and a wine list reaching from local British Columbia, France to New Zealand, all in a cozy and relax setting, at the convenience of Yaletown.”

Caché Bistro & Lounge is located near the corner of Hamilton and Drake, steps away from the nearby SkyTrain Station, while affordable street parking options are also available along and west of Drake Street.  Patio will be opened during the spring and summer seasons.
