Grand Opening of Tap & Barrel in Olympic Village*
*(Edited from the press release.
Although open for business since July, Tap & Barrel in the Olympic Village celebrated their official Grand Opening on October 9, 2012 with over 1,000 people in attendance. The concept, as the name suggests, places the emphasis on beers on tap and wines on tap. As part of the Daniel Group (DG), the casual dining restaurant features a lineup of 25 rotating craft BC microbrew beers on tap, as well as 14 premium BC wines on tap.
"Every barrel eliminates the need for 300 bottles, corks, labels, containers, and transporting, thereby greatly reducing the carbon footprint," says owner Daniel Frankel. "Our Sommelier David Stansfield has worked relentlessly convincing wineries to come on board and sell us their wine in this format so that we can offer it on tap to our patrons. We have now negotiated exclusive barrel lots with many top BC wineries."
And there is more to come. In the spring of 2013, DG plans to open a second Tap & Barrel location at the Vancouver Trade & Convention Centre (in the heart of Jack Poole Plaza), which will feature even more wines on tap.
At the new Olympic Village location, the menu offers a selection of salads, sandwiches, homemade burgers with fresh baked buns and hand tossed pies baked in the 800-degree Wood Stone oven. Says Executive Chef Rob Holland,"Everything is prepared from scratch daily, locally sourced and uniquely presented letting the quality of ingredients take center stage."
The two-story 14,000 sq. foot space (including patios), boasts views overlooking False Creek, downtown Vancouver and the North Shore mountains. There are two full service bars and a two-level climate controlled outdoor patio seating 300 people. A 12-seat private dining area offers guests waterfront views for special events, meetings and parties in an intimate library setting.
Tap & Barrel is also a Greentable Network member ensuring that all operations are performed as environmentally friendly as possible. The building was awarded top honours in building performance and sustainability with a LEED Platinum certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) setting a new standard for environmentally friendly efforts for design, construction and operations.
