Nk’Mip Cellars (North America's first aboriginal winery) has partnered with Kanata Cuisine and the BC Aboriginal Culinary Team to provide the world with a modern take on traditional aboriginal dining experiences during the 2010 Winter Games. The dining event takes place at the Native Education College’s Longhouse, located near the trendy Main St. district.
The evening begins with a welcome song to greet patrons in the longhouse’s firelit gathering hall, followed by an authentic seven course aboriginal feast by Kanata Cuisine with wine pairings from Nk’Mip Cellars. Look for such menu items as braised bison short ribs with watercress and parsnip puree served with Nk’Mip’s 2006 Qwam Qwmt Meritage.
Entertainment will be provided by the Tzo’kam family of performers from the Lil’wat Nation. Tickets for this event are $245 excluding gratuities and can be purchased online through www.ticketweb.ca or by phone at 1-888-222-6608. The 14 days of feasting began on February 14 and will run the duration of the Games. Two seatings of 40 per evening.Partial proceeds from this venture will fund the Aboriginal Culinary Team’s journey to the IKA Culinary Olympics being held in Erfurt, Germany in 2012. cuisinekanata@gmail.com

Hapa Izakaya Yaletown is now serving lunch from Sunday to Thursday - 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. In Japan,  the traditional “tapas-style” izakaya is favoured by hungry Japanese businessmen after work, but it also makes a handy meal while wandering between Olympic venues or just checking out the international vibe in Vancouver this month. The selection of lunch dishes range from the hearty and filling Ishi Yaki in a hot stone bowl to the delicate and crisp Ten Don tempura.  All lunches come with rice, miso soup, salad and pickles.

Two special pizza creations have been added to the menu for the duration of the Games, to honour celebrated Olympians who will be competing for medals: “The Glider" pizza honors Giorgio Di Centa, Italy's chosen flag-bearer and cross-country skier, featuring mushrooms and prosciutto, both popular ingredients in Di Centa’s home region of Tolmezzo.   While the “The Goalie” pizza celebrates Vancouver Canucks superstar and home-grown Olympian, Roberto Luongo, featuring locally-smoked salmon, mozzarella and mascarpone. Podium Cocktails include Bronze (Southern Comfort, Absolut Mandarin, orange bitters), Silver (Absolut Vodka, Creme de Cacao and coconut water) or prized Gold (Metaxa, Goldschlager, apple juice and Prosecco). Open everyday throughout the Games between 11 a.m. and 1.45 a.m., with pizzas served until 1 a.m.
