RESTAURANT/HOTEL NEWS

No Fool'n. Some people go for this sort of thing like dog biscuits, but we think its paw-si-tively ARF-full. The OPUS HOTEL's newest promo is a "Pampered Pooch" package which offers your pet a range of spa treatments as well as the attentions of a 'Bow Wow Butler'. The deal, which starts at $585, includes a snazzy bandana, a glamour photo session and a relaxing, in-room, one-hour massage or reiki session (for your mutt, not you). Hmm. Don't forget people, humans need love too. Find yourself one.

After a refresh to the premises and its decor, Summerhill Pyramid Winery's SUNSET ORGANIC BISTRO has reopened for the season under winery chef, Jonas Stadtländer. Working with local organic producers and seasonal ingredients from Summerhill's own gardens, Chef Stadtländer expects that the menu will change frequently and could include such dishes as stinging nettle pasta, homemade sourdough bread, and charcuterie made from Berkshire pigs, butchered in-house. There is even a "Junior Foodies" menu. 4870 Chute Lake Rd, Kelowna.

More than trees will look spectacular during Vancouver's 10th Annual CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL (April 2-29). Just as pretty and much more tasty, the 'Cherry Blossom' sushi rolls - incorporating cherry blossoms and cherry blossom salt - will be available at Miku and Minami Japanese restaurants throughout April. Mmm and how about the candied salmon gelato that Bella Gelateria will be bringing to the Sakura Night celebration at Tojo's on April 29th. That's a pink dream too. Get the details here.

CHEFS

Come April, JAMES OLBERG will be the new Executive Chef for COAST restaurant. The appointment marks Olberg's return to the Glowbal Group fold. From 2003-2007 he was the Exec Chef of the original Glowbal Grill and manager of GRG's catering division. A seasoned culinary competitor, Olberg will represent Canada in the 2017 Bocuse d'Or in Lyon, France. As for current COAST chef Pedro Gonzalez, he will lead the kitchen brigade at the new Glowbal Grill, opening this summer at Telus Garden.

DRINK NEWS

Fragmented Nodal Colonies? Hahaha! Good one, Granville Island Brewery. Your drone delivery vid is funny. But who knows? Domino's Pizza is out there trying to create a drone for real to deliver pizzas. What we want to know is, when the day comes when this technology actually becomes a $90 million dollar industry, how noisy and nosey are these things going to be? Is a quiet blue sky the last commercial frontier?

As most of us are aware, the BC Provincial Government is making sweeping changes regarding how alcohol products may be sold in this province, and today is the day that most of it takes effect -- including the reveal of some previously withheld and crucial (to liquor store operators) information on wholesale pricing. Look for much discussion about this topic in the news today. VanCityBuzz has posted four points you may not know here.

FORT BERENS Estate Winery announce that for the first time, their entire Spring lineup of new release wines are 100% estate-grown, produced and bottled in Lillooet. To commemorate this new milestone, the winery will be running a '100% Lillooet' contest to give away an exclusive prize package valued at over $1000, as well as weekly prizes throughout the 6-week promotion.  For your chance to win, enter at FortBerens.ca or on the Fort Berens Facebook page between April 17th and May 31st.

SHOP

One of our favourite sources of fresh OLIVE OIL, Amelia Oil, has just received their latest shipment of fragrant green oil from Umbria, and this is why you should stock up NOW. Many of you are aware that due to bad weather, 2014 was a tough year for the Mediterranean olive tree, resulting in greatly reduced harvests, and much higher prices. Oil hoarding in Europe may even make it difficult to find any at all. Fortunately this North Van-Umbria olive oil co-op was able to secure some high quality stock, although in reduced quantity. Move fast to reserve your order.

So chipper...There is the Christian religious observance of Easter, and then there is the Easter that is a celebration of springtime.  This item fits the bill for the later - a dark or milk CHOCOLATE 'BIRDY' from Chocolate Arts, packaged with its own dark chocolate nest and three foil-wrapped eggs. Cute! $22.95.
