Chef Don Letendre on Jerusalem

In this visually stunning new cookbook, Yotam Ottolenghi (an Israeli-born and London-based chef, writer and restaurant owner), and Sami Tamimi (his Palestinian co-author and business partner), explore the vibrant cuisine of their home city -- Jerusalem -- with all its diverse Muslim, Jewish, and Christian communities. Together they offer 120 recipes from their unique cross-cultural perspective, from inventive vegetable dishes to sweet, rich desserts.

This Wednesday, November 28th, local Vancouver chef Don Letendre will recreate recipes from Jerusalem and discuss his love of Middle Eastern and Jewish cooking at Barbara-Jo's Books to Cooks. We asked Don what excites him about this book.

CityFood: What attracted you to this book?

Don Letendre:
I am a huge Ottolenghi fan. I first walked into his food emporium in London in 2007 and I was amazed by the selection of food, the atmosphere, aromas, exotic products, the abundant layers of food on beautiful platters scattered throughout the store; this is what every food emporium should look like!  I own and cook from all his books which I value for their ingredients, techniques and history.

CF: So, what’s the first thing you wanted to do after reading this one?
