PREVIEW - NARROW LOUNGE
(Edited from the Press Release.)

Narrow Lounge - Main Street's new artfully designed dining spot - is an intimate 45-seat establishment welcoming guests from 5 p.m. onwards, seven days a week. The restaurant and lounge offer food and drink selections to those looking to relax and engage in an eclectic space.

Located at the corner of Main and 3rd, Narrow Lounge is situated under the grace-gallery - a space devoted to developing and presenting new visual, performing, literary and media art. In addition to the gallery and lounge, the 6,000-square-foot building houses nine suites designated for artists. The revenue generated from Narrow Lounge subsidizes the artists' quarters as well as the gallery.

When scouring the Main Street strip, look for the single red light bulb above the Narrow Lounge distressed iron sign. Once patrons descend the staircase leading to the entrance, they are greeted by a warm, classic bar setting. Dark wood tables and deep red patterned wallpaper are reflected in the aged tin tiles on the ceiling and the bar is illuminated by a hanging dark metal and gold chandelier.

Guests are welcome to play DJ with a vintage record player tucked away in the corner. What started with owner David Duprey's punk rock collection from the '80's, has grown - thanks to donations from vinyl junkie patrons - to include hundreds of albums encompassing everything from the Pixies to Fleetwood Mac and John Coltrane.

The kitchen is helmed by Executive Chef Simon Vine, formerly of Sund's Lodge on B.C.'s Malcolm Island. The menu showcases comfort food (think 'Stout Lamb Stew') and offerings reminiscent of Vine's childhood (the 'Hippie Parents Salad'). All dishes are deliciously simple and utilize as much of BC's local bounty as possible. Prices average $10 a plate.

Imbibe with classic cocktails fine-tuned from General Manager Ezra Kish's years of mixology exploration, with a Bramble, Manhattan or Harvey Wallbanger. Browse through the extensive single malt scotch offerings, or toast to a $5.75 glass of house red or white wine. Other wines featured on the menu include BC labels Larch Hills and Sumac Ridge, Germany's Dr. Pauly Bergweiler and South Australia's Grant Burge Filsell.

Beer aficionados will dig the selection of fifteen bottles ranging from Pacifico to St. Ambroise Apricot Ale and five drafts on tap - three from Vancouver's R & B microbrewery, with BC's Philips and classic Strong Bow rounding out the mix.

"The goal with Narrow Lounge was to create a room that you could find in New York, San Francisco or LA, but did not yet exist here in Vancouver," says Duprey. "An inviting space with a very low profile - giving guests the feel of having found something that was lost in the past."
