Tea is for Terra Nova

TEA IS FOR TERRA NOVA
(Directly from the press release.)

Terra Nova Schoolyard Society now has its own custom tea blend, provided by well known Vancouver tea merchantsT”.

The Terra Nova Blend “T” is a cheerful blend of organic rooibos with notes of orange and lemon, selling for $15 per tin (50 cup yield). All proceeds are earmarked for the Terra Nova Schoolyard Society, now in its third year.

The non-profit, community garden project has blossomed to encompass over 500 elementary children from five neighbouring elementary schools walking to plots located on Richmond’s Terra Nova Rural Park.

Terra Nova Blend Tea is available at Papi's Marketplace in Steveston, Vista D'Oro Farms in Langley, and Northwest Culinary Academy in Vancouver, or place your order via email to info@myterranova.ca (additional shipping charges may apply on email orders).

This year the ever growing Terra Nova Schoolyard Society not only does tea but takes on more gardening space and is excitedly awaiting the completion of an on-site teaching kitchen. A project like this has been quite the feat as it runs entirely on donation, municipal funding and dedicated volunteers. That’s why you need to mark your calendar for ‘Chefs to the Field’, held this year on Sunday, August 10th. This is when a handful of the Lower Mainland’s top chefs come together to provide local, organic tastings for a mere $3 per serving – with proceeds benefitting the Terra Nova Schoolyard Society.

Also happening that day is a tête à tête battle for the coveted ‘Green Cuisine Award’ where competitors harvest their ingredients right off the land. Participating restaurants include: Aurora Bistro, C Restaurant, Cooks for Hire, Culinary Capers, Glorious Organics Co-Op, Northwest Culinary Academy of Vancouver, Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts, Pan-o-Pan, Papi's Restaurant, Raincity Grill, Tapenade Restaurant, Vancouver Community College, Wild Rice, and more.

Meanwhile, look for more information coming soon on this year’s season kick-off “Breakfast Bash” happening on May 28 and 29. The Terra Nova Schoolyard Society is a non-profit, community based garden project founded in 2006 by Chef Ian Lai (Instructor at Northwest Culinary Academy of Vancouver) which operates on 5000 square feet of growing space generously provided by the City of Richmond. The program aims to promote community, local organic food, healthy eating choices and food sustainability.
