CHURCH & STATE "CHURCH MOUSE" CABERNET BLANC 2006
Okanagan Valley, BC

The “Mouse is in the house, but don’t let it end the party!

Back at the beginning of June we started our summer of pink wine reviews with a single rosé. We have blushed our way through the summer with a new flavour each week and now, here we sit with an impressive bouquet and a lot of empties.

Sadly, summer seems to have whizzed by (whether we actually had a summer is questionable at best), and thus we march on toward the fall season.

Although we generally think of rosé as a summer drink suitable for patio quaffing and summer fare, don’t dis its suitability as a food partner throughout the remainder of the year. Salmon, mushrooms, late summer barbeques, not to mention your classic turkey dinner with cranberry sauce, go splendidly with pink. And of course, one shouldn't forget the classic bubbly celebratory drink—pink Champagne.

But for us there is more wine to taste, more to review, so for now we bid the pinks adieu. The last stem we add to this bouquet is one from our own backyard -- made from Okanagan Cabernet Sauvignon grapes at a Vancouver Island winery.

The Mouse is a fair one, paler amber/pink as opposed to bold cranberry in colour. The aromas are red berries, rhubarb and citrus fruit. The flavours are tart — bordering on sweet with candied red fruit and cranberry with a supportive backbone of pink grapefruit.
