Vancouver’s West Sweeps Industry Awards Earning Recognition Across the Board for Excellence in Food, Wine and Service

Vancouver, BC. - at the eighteenth annual Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards, held Monday, April 16th 2007 at the Sheraton Wall Centre, BC’s restaurateurs, chefs and service professionals gathered to celebrate the best of their industry; the finest restaurants and most talented individuals. This year, the eighteen selected judges were introduced to a new judging criterion that would deliver the “most accurate and objective take on dining out you’ll find anywhere in North America.� (Vancouver magazine)

Winning the title ‘Restaurant of the Year’, the most hotly contended award that delivers standing as the city’s top dining destination “is a huge honour� says Restaurant Director Brian Hopkins. “It really means a lot to win three times in a row� adds Executive Chef David Hawksworth “it firmly cements our standing in the city.� And the magazine judges certainly agree stating “West epitomizes the best of the West Coast food experience�

West also took gold in a new category ‘Best Service’, judges noted “seamless service amps up for serious eaters and wine drinkers, while staying relaxed for those less sure.� And bronze in the race for ‘Best Last Course’, where pastry chef Rhonda Viani was highly praised for her work with chocolate and “excellent fruit-based desserts that change with the seasons� (Vancouver magazine). Earning an hounourable mention in the ‘Best Regional’ category, judges noted “David Hawksworth rhymes regional with long distance ingredients with rigorous technique"

Winners of the Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival were also announced and West again took ‘Gold’ for its approachable, diverse, deep and global wine collection. Bar Manager David Wolowydnick was commended as one of the five best servers in the province earning a Premier Crew Service Award which in part was attributed to his mantra to “strive to make good experiences for people, smile a lot and love what you do�.
