OKANAGAN FALL WINE FESTIVAL HARVESTS A NEW RECORD FOR REVENUES AND ATTENDANCE

(Edited from the press release.)

Kelowna, British Columbia - The Okanagan Wine Festivals Society announced today records for revenues and attendance at the 2007 Okanagan Fall Wine Festival presented by American Express which ran September 28th through October 7 with over 170 events throughout Okanagan Wine Country.

Roger Gillespie, Marketing Chair for the Okanagan Wine Festivals and Manager of Hospitality for Sumac Ridge Estate Winery stated “The combination of good planning and focused marketing has continued to allow us to reap success with wine tourists. I am pleased to announce that consumer visitation achieved a record 188,000 visits during the Fall Wine Festival and most important, the direct revenues from events and wine sales topped $4.7 million. Even with the Canadian dollar at par, this shows us that when there is an excellent tourism experience and if we serve our customers well, people will spend more and stay longer. This is wonderful news for the whole of the Okanagan economy. If we add in the multiplier effect to include the value of accommodations, travel, meals and gifts, the direct economic contribution of the Okanagan Fall Wine Festival lies somewhere in the range of $7-8 million.

The Okanagan Wine Festivals Society is currently planning the 10th British Columbia Icewine Festival hosted at Sun Peaks Resort January 14-19, 2008. Packages for this intimate wine festival are available online at www.sunpeaksresort.com.
