FIND YOUR INNER PEASANT ON BREAD BAKING DAY


Florin Moldovan is holding a second open house at his Transilvania Peasant Bread on April 1, to celebrate the bakery's second anniversary. Visitors are free to drop by the shop at 3474 West Broadway around 6:30 pm on Sunday, April 1; and bring one or two loaves that are (almost) ready to go into the oven. Everyone will sit around, chat and snack while waiting for the loaves to bake. UBC WINE AND BEER FESTIVAL


The 2007 Wine and Beer Festival at UBC takes place on Friday March 30, 2007 from 4-8 pm in the Student Union Building. This is the third annual event and this year’s festival will include 28 vendors pouring microbrews, domestic products, specialty import beer, and B.C. and international wines. Several products will make this festival their debut event in British Columbia. There will be several flavoured beers and draft-only products not currently available in bottles or cans.

The event ticket also includes two beer and food pairing seminars. “We are really excited to have Rogers’ Chocolates and Nando’s Flame-Grilled Chicken as sponsors this year,� says Rick Mohabir from Just Here For The Beer. “They both have excellent products and this shows the versatility of beer and food pairings,� he adds.

Festival coordinator, Colin Jack, worked at UBC for two years and still teaches the beer tasting and education classes on campus. “It is a unique event that attracts UBC Students, faculty, and residents from the surrounding neighbourhoods�. The fastest growing markets in the Canadian beer industry are microbrew and specialty import products. The 2007 Wine and Beer Festival will have a great selection of both.
