We ran into Alain Canuel today at the International Cellars portfolio tasting, and he said (with fingers crossed), that the new Yaletown restaurant R.TL should be open on October 1st.

Canuel, who was formerly the sommelier for Figmint, and before that, Araxi,  is now the operations manager for R.TL. He describes the new restaurant as small (only 50 seats), but one that will have a worldly outlook. Westcoast cuisine will be the mainstay, but every other month, up to two thirds of the menu will be devoted to the cuisine of a different international city. Hence the "R.TL" which stands for "Regional Tasting Menu."  "Regional", as in  ... not always ours, sometimes it will be someone else's.

Being a wine guy, Canuel is also investing in some of the latest high-tech wine preserving machines, which will allow the restaurant to offer a large number of interesting boutique-style wines by the glass.

Look for R.TL  just a shopfront down the street from Goldfish at 1130 Mainland St.
