RED X RED TAPAS LOUNGE - a preview

RED X RED Tapas Lounge (or "RED² Tapas Lounge" as it is affectionately called), located at 1216 Granville St, is now open. Featuring Eastern-European influenced share plates with a focus on quality, regional ingredients, excellent, friendly service, and a sleek room with an industrial funky feel. RED² also boasts Vancouver’s largest selection of Vodkas (80) and a unique Russian-themed Vodka cocktails and martinis. Quite simply, RED² is the funkiest place to kick back downtown.

Head chef Chris Dignan and Sous chef Jesse McCleery both hail from one of Vancouver Island’s top-rated restaurant, Café Brio, The Dignan/McCleery combo meld their Island-grown philosophy of using fresh, seasonal, local ingredients and influence dishes with an Eastern-European flare to create a menu that is simply inspiring. Reasonably priced between $6-18 a plate, the menu includes: Arctic Char atop a bed of crushed cauliflower, tender Venison, Peirogis stuffed with Dungeness Crab & Mascarpone, Scallops with Speck Ham and Buttered Savoy Cabbage, Boneless Beef Short Rib Stroganov, fresh oysters and, of course, Caviar (to name just a few).

Owned by the Syndicorp Group, (G Sports Bar and Grill, and the Granville Grand Hotel), RED² front-of-house is lead by General Manager David Sarich and Maitre D Charles Zuckerman, who bring a combined 50 years of award-winning restaurant experience to the table. Sarich, with an American Express Top Service Award under his belt, has helmed the service teams at high-end eateries like Watermark, Lift, and Coast. Zuckermann’s classic approach follows the footsteps of his mentors, some of the best restaurateurs Vancouver has to offer, including Benny Graydon (Century Grill), Frenchy (Joe Fortes), and Emad Yacoub (Glowbal Group).

RED² is an upscale lounge with a casual, funky approach. The menu is unique, the dishes hearty and delicious, and the experience, one of a kind. “[the restaurant aims for a] feeling of being part of a community, a family if you will. “To take hospitality to the next level, it is important to treat every guest as you would expect to be treated, so that not only do they feel like they are being pampered, but above all, respected” is Zuckermann’s mantra.
