CAPERS BBQ RUBS AND GLAZES

Sitting in the cooler case they can look a little lab sample-ish, but if you are a grill chef on the lazy side, they can also be your new best friend.

In time for barbecue season, Capers has whipped up three new meat rubs and two glazing sauces that are guaranteed to boost the flavour of nearly any slab of charred protein. And do it with healthy, mostly organic ingredients too.

Take the Organic Maple Balsamic Sauce, for example. What we call “ketchup for the grown up palate� lists ingredients as: organic crushed tomatoes, organic maple syrup, organic celery, onions, cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar, filtered water, allspice, cloves, celery seeds, sea salt and nutmeg.

Shoot at a hamburger or cone of homemade French fries. Or use either the ketchup ($2.99) or the Pomegranate Glaze ($4.99) to glaze a chicken wing, marinade a kabob or a make a decorative doodle on a plate. (Prices are for 250 mL squeeze bottles.)

The rubs, both wet and dry, travel the map in flavours of Mexican-style Chipotle, Jamaican Jerk, and the oh, so Provencal, Lavender Herb. All are freshly concocted in Capers’ commissary kitchen from prime ingredients and contain no preservatives or chemical additives. (Price range for 250 mL $4.99 - $5.99)
