A SWEET EDUCATION

You’ll be forgiven if you think the items in the photo above are cupcakes. (We thought so too.) But actually, they are cheesecakes -- very small, individually sized, and beautifully decorated, for sure – but still, true cheesecakes.

You’ll find them at Cheesecake 101 a delightful, small, “mom and pop-style bakery that opened this spring in Kitsilano.

Husband and wife team Dominic and Katie Cassettari, claim market research determined there was a need for gourmet cheesecake in Vancouver. With that incentive they decided to open a second branch of a successful new specialty shop that had been launched by a relative in Campbell River as a franchise-able operation.

The little cheesecakes come in 101 variations (hence the name), of which a changing selection of 6 flavours is featured each week. The Cassettaris bake them fresh each morning from their secret family recipes then delicately decorate each for sale in the afternoon – turning them into 4 sized confections, or the little bite-sized versions they call ‘poppers.

Check the menu at www.cheesecake101.com We think either size could be just the right thing for bridal or baby showers, lunch boxes, portable picnics, individual dinner party desserts, or simply for impromptu personal celebrations inspired by any reason.
