DELI-LIGHTFUL OPENINGS IN STORE

A couple of weeks ago when we checked in with So.Cial at Le Magasin's deli-in-progress, the much touted feature of the new restaurant looked more like a furniture warehouse than a future purveyor of custom-butchered, organic meat products. A peek behind the curtained off area revealed tables, chairs and various bits of construction material heaped in the middle of the floor – but not a pastrami in sight.

The problem was not due to a want of industry on Chef Sean Cousin’s part, nor any lack of enthusiasm for stuffing sausages. All this time, Cousins has been hard at work producing so many proscuitto-style pork legs, cured salamis, pates and other items, that there is now barely room to moo in the cold storage section of his kitchen. ... ISSUE UPDATE - MORE TRENDS
Sky Farms

Another article regarding the future prospect of vertical farming, in the same vein as the New York Magazine article we linked to in the Spring issue of CityFood ("How High Would You Have to Be to Become a Vertical Farmer?", page 22), has been posted today in The First Post. The Post is actually an online magazine produced in Britain, but the cover illustration of the article depicts an artist's rendering of an urban farming operation atop a hi-rise building in the heart of Toronto. (This article was spotted by Tim Pawsey.) Read it here .... Architecture Goes Up in the World.

There's been one Hell of a lot of bartender competitions lately and we can expect a lot more of them as liquor distillers find it an effective way to raise product user awareness and bait the media. TODAY'S PRESS RELEASES

On the list of 1000 Places to See Before You Die, we imagine that your doctor's office, the will and estate tax planner's , cemetary time share agency, and the confessional booth might be among them, but on the brighter side ... there is Raincity Grill and C restaurant. Why die hungry?

YESTERDAY'S PRESS RELEASES

Two respectably sober press releases in today, and one other one. The third being a hugs and kisses from the soon-to-be-opened Boneta restaurant that reads a lot like Neil Ingram's wine descriptions on a low atmospheric day. Normally we edit these things, but in this case didn't dare. It could so easily contain secret code for the mothership on tonight's mission to create crop circles at UBC Farms (weather permitting). But then again, it's really no odder than Boneta's current website which contains one of those countdown clocks, the purpose of which is to remind one of our collective, spiralling-out-of-control, national debt, or how few days one has left to make a religious conversion.

We wonder if at Boneta we will be able to get fries with this. Decipher it here.

The Toasted Oak Wine Bar and Grill is the South Okanagan's first restaurant to bear the Oceanwise banner.
