CHANGE NOTICE

As we can't seem to convince our web designers to get the Keyword Search function up and working, and because the Most Recent listings boxes (to the left and down) are too small to include everything that gets covered each day, we have started a catalogue of old Dine and Dash and Press Release items grouped by day. Look for it as "News Item Archive" up in the top left corner of this page, under the Keyword Search Box.

Features items will be indexed in their own archive where they will be linked directly to the sections in which they have been stored. You can also find this under the Keyword box.

Hopefully this will make the search for old items posted on CityFood Online a little bit easier to find. In the meantime, the Keyword Search does work extremely well in the online CityFood E-zine (accessible from the home page or "This Issue" section) and we will continue to work on trying to get the website version working as well.

Please note: New items are added to the Daily News page continuously throughout the day. When the page for each day is completed, the title is changed from "currently updating" to a working title for filing.

TODAY'S PRESS RELEASES

Two respectably sober press releases in today, and one other one. The third being a hugs and kisses from the soon-to-be-opened Boneta restaurant that reads a lot like Neil Ingram's wine descriptions on a low atmospheric day. Normally we edit these things, but in this case didn't dare. It could so easily contain secret code for the mothership on tonight's mission to create crop circles at UBC Farms (weather permitting). But then again, it's really no odder than Boneta's current website which contains one of those countdown clocks, the purpose of which is to remind one of our collective, spiralling-out-of-control, national debt, or how few days one has left to make a religious conversion.

We wonder if at Boneta we will be able to get fries with this. Decipher it here.

The Toasted Oak Wine Bar and Grill is the South Okanagan's first restaurant to bear the Oceanwise banner.

THE MEDIA HOUND

The Local Ink:

Alexandra Gill shoots, stabs, and garrotes Infinity, and then runs back and forth over it with her car. Otherwise, we don't think she liked it much. In today's Globe and Mail.

Well, the media as a watch dog for the tourism industry is a good thing, and if the restaurant manager was guilty of her behaviour as described then she deserved the reprimand. However, this review reminded us of something. After the Bruni vs. Chodorow show played out in the New York Times this spring, it was rumoured that restaurant industry lawyers had started advising their clients to issue waitstaff with recording devices - for training purposes only, of course. It wasn't a practical idea; the things record far too much background noise to be useful. Not to mention the fact that taping someone's conversation without their knowledge or permission is as big a legal minefield as whatever might be recorded. However, it seemed as though some of these lawyer types were sniffing out the possibility of pursuing a legal defense of restaurant review accusation. This was something unheard of in the past, but in a couple of instances in 2006, actually made it into the courts -- with the outcome in favour of the restaurants.
