What Victoria's Drinking Now

FEATURES
WHAT VICTORIA'S DRINKING NOW
Drinking like an Islander is not about coconuts. In the past week or so we've received so many press releases from Victoria related to wine, we started keeping a folder with the idea of making a Victoria wine feature for the website. Then today we realized, oops, better hurry up, the big wine festival has already begun. Not the Vancouver International Wine Festival, but the other big annual fest in Victoria. You'll find more on this below, as well as three additional upcoming wine events, plus news about two island-based companies in the wine touring business. ... CONTINUE READING ...

DINE AND DASH
Starting March 20th, LK Dining Lounge will be commencing "Industry Tuesdays" for their wine list. All listings will be available at retail cost plus $5 for members of the beverage and hospitality industry, as well as card-carrying members of food and wine clubs, dining groups, and social clubs. Incidentally, he's been kind of low profile but the chef at LK is Travis Williams who was formerly at Adesso Bistro.
Despite the surge in wine interest in the city during this pre-festival week, there's a death watch on a certain wine bar in the city. More later.
The new Loden Hotel has released its first official 8 x 10 glossy with photo and measurements, and it looks like a beauty. See Today's Press Releases below.
Big Party tonight as the Glowbal Restaurant Group celebrates their 5th Anniversary with a big bash in Yaletown. Many happy regards to Emad Yacoub and his team.

THE LOCAL INK
Ben and Suanne the Chowtimes couple always sound like they are having too much fun. Lately they've been cooking up a black jelly from powdered turtles (we don't mean the chocolates), and then they fool around with some chicken flavoured Pho Soup Base.
THE OUTSIDE WORLD
If you are into sake this is your Mecca. This San Francisco store boasts some 190 labels, giving it the largest collection outside of Japan.
How upbeat can frozen yoghurt get? Well, there's Pinkberry, the low-fat (30 calorie per cup) Los Angeles cult dessert that as the slogan says, "has launched a thousand parking tickets".
Starbucks is venturing into the private label record business and rumour has it that Paul McCartney is one of the first music artists to sign up.
What makes a green restaurant really green, according to the Boston Globe
Is that time of year again. Why Coca-cola addicts are running around New York frantically buying up the bottles with the yellow caps.
