A ONE MINUTE INTERVIEW WITH ... THREE DISHWASHERS
Dishwashers – in today’s competitive market for good, reliable employees, they’ve become a valuable commodity. But even though their toil may no longer be thankless, it is still hard and dirty work and everyone had better respect that. For some, being a dishwasher is a career, for others it’s only a stepping stone to their dreams of culinary stardom, while a few are just in it for the money. Whatever. It’s their job to clean up every one else’s act and they do it with pride and professionalism. We talk to dishwashers who have worked at top restaurants in Vancouver: Tojo’s, Provence Marinaside, and the city's highest paid dishwasher at Lumiere.

DINE AND DASH
An official fact sheet profiling Maureen Fleming and Sean Cousins' new restaurant and deli, SO.CIAL at Le Magasin was released today. You can find it posted here. (If link is not working, access the RESTAURANTS tab at the top of this page and then select the sub index - News and Rumours.)
The Gusto di Quattro alumni who have taken over the old Milagro's space on West Vancouver's Marine Drive (at 2222, next to La Regalade) with the plan of turning it into a fine Italian dining room by the name of Mangia Bevi, seem to have reached the hiring stage. They are taking resumes for all positions on location this Monday to Friday between 1 and 4 p.m. For more information check out their Craigslist posting here.

THE OUTSIDE WORLD ... TODAY: THINGS WE COULDN'T POSSIBLY HAVE MADE UP
A recipe that leaps onto new ground ... food bloggers in Toronto are eating deep fried rabbit ears and say they are ear-resistible.
Visions of sugar plums ... a chandelier made entirely from Gummi Bears.
A new threat for De Beers. Why just use your microwave to heat up coffee when with some charcoal briquettes and a little peanut butter you could be making your own bling.
A new parenting guide advises Mom’s to take back control. Basic idea: Switch the play/work roles. You lounge back with a stiff martini and make the kids do all the vacuuming.
But then again, according to Modern Drunkard Magazine, maybe you are better off drinking in solitude.
Evil carbs be gone. Make your sandwiches with colourful lo-fat soy wrappers in such flavours as sesame, spinach and paprika.
