Springtime for Hipsters and Germany

DINE AND DASH

Despite the fact that he will be doing appearances on behalf of Earl's restaurants during the Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival, it has been confirmed that Chef Michael Noble will be leaving Earl's employment at the end of the month. Chef Michael hopes to open his own restaurant in either Calgary or "somewhere in the Okanagan", but has yet to find a suitable venue.

The Sutton Place Hotel announced last night that they will be opening a fine wine store with a Burrard Street entrance in the area where the Residence at Sutton Place is located. Acknowledging that a large percentage of their guests (many of whom are from the film industry) are highly interested in BC's emerging wine industry, they plan to augment the shop's wine sales with seminars, tastings and wine and food matching menus using the hotel's dining and bar facilities.

Yesterday someone asked the question: What happened to Jeremy Roncoroni? The former General Manager and Food and Beverage Director for the Metropolitan Hotel in Vancouver has reportedly left his position at the company without notice. The situation is not out of character with the Hotel's history of sudden departures by its top level employees. We remember wine enthusiast Roncoroni best for having introduced Riedel crystal goblets as orange juice glasses during the breakfast service -- a practice that was immediately discontinued by his replacement when Roncoroni was transferred to the Toronto head office.

THE OUTSIDE WORLD ... TODAY: THINGS WE COULDN'T POSSIBLY HAVE MADE UP

A recipe that leaps onto new ground ... food bloggers in Toronto are eating deep fried rabbit ears and say they are ear-resistible.

Visions of sugar plums ... a chandelier made entirely from Gummi Bears.

A new threat for De Beers. Why just use your microwave to heat up coffee when with some charcoal briquettes and a little peanut butter you could be making your own bling.

A new parenting guide advises Mom’s to take back control. Basic idea: Switch the play/work roles. You lounge back with a stiff martini and make the kids do all the vacuuming.

But then again, according to Modern Drunkard Magazine, maybe you are better off drinking in solitude.

Evil carbs be gone. Make your sandwiches with colourful lo-fat soy wrappers in such flavours as sesame, spinach and paprika.
