DINE AND DASH

What they are saying now:

(On the staffing shortage in Vancouver) "It kind of shocks me how it is these days," said the restaurant owner. "I'm used to a time when the staff would come and ask you if they could have a particular week off. Or at least give you the consideration of having some input into the decision. Now they tell ME what's going down. They've started just leaving notes on the scheduling board that say 'I'll be taking the weekend off so don't book me in.' Sometimes two or three people will do this on a crucial set of days, such as an American long weekend. In the "old" days they wouldn't have had a job to come back to when they returned, but no one is so easily replaceable any more."
