WHAT'S WITH THE LOGO? THE STORY BEHIND THE LABEL

LEOPARD FROG VINEYARDS

During the Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival, wineries visit Vancouver from all over the world. But some of them have closer ties to Canada than you might expect.

Take Leopard Frog Vineyards, for example. The wine may derive from 300-year-old vines growing on family-owned farms in the heart of the historic wine capital of Stellenbosch, South Africa, but the 2-year-old winery itself is the vision of Canadian winemaker and proprietor David Bate, and the company's frog-like logo is actually a westcoast Salish design. ... DINE AND DASH
(excerpted from the press release)

The Hart House Restaurant on Deer Lake’s has a new executive chef in Dennis Peckham.

Born and raised in Vancouver, Dennis Peckham graduated from Dubrulle Culinary Institute. After completing his schooling he joined the team at Vancouver’s Lumière Restaurant and subsequently was the Chef de Partie at Napa Valley’s French Laundry, one of the most celebrated restaurants in North America. After time spent in California Dennis decided to return to British Columbia and worked at Vancouver’s West Restaurant.

Starting March 1st, Chef Peckham's lunch menu will feature light new additions such as a warm chicken salad with pancetta, olives, blue cheese and a fig balsamic; pan seared scallops with a lemon basil risotto and cilantro salad; and a pulled lamb sandwich with caramelized onions, emmenthal cheese, and hand-cut fries

Dinner menu highlights will include AAA rib eye steak, wild mushroom risotto, rack of lamb, and roasted free range chicken. The brunch menu offers fresh takes on classic favourites such as Dungeness crab cake benedict; breakfast spring rolls; and brioche French toast with blueberry compote mascarpone cream.
